Shepherded by The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Katz Teller partner Whitney Maxson has earned the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) professional designation from the Richard D. Irwin Graduate School of The American College of Financial Services. Completion of the program, which entails six hours of rigorous, supervised written exams, will allow Whitney to more effectively help our clients meet their charitable giving and estate planning goals.
The CAP® curriculum addresses the advanced design, implementation and management of charitable gift techniques and strategies, as well as philanthropic tools that include charitable trusts, private foundations, supporting organizations, donor-advised funds, pooled income funds and charitable gift annuities. Fewer than 2,000 individuals have been awarded the CAP® designation since its inception in 2003.
CAP® graduates are uniquely qualified to bring together gift planners and well-chosen advisors in the common purpose to help wealthy families create inspired legacy plans. In addition, professionals who have earned the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® designation help donors improve their communities by maximizing the effective application of their financial resources.
As the region’s leading community foundation, Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) connects people with purpose in an eight-county region in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. “GCF is proud to convene and moderate the Cincinnati CAP® cohort each year” explained Michele Carey, CAP®, Director of Professional Advisor Services at GCF. “Prior to the GCF CAP Study Group, individuals worked independently to earn this esteemed designation. By convening a cohort that includes wealth advisors, tax and accounting specialists, and legal experts, participants form deep relationships that continue beyond the CAP study group, to benefit their clients and grow their practice.”
In addition to the benefit brought to our clients, Whitney’s CAP® designation deepens her dedication to philanthropy. Serving the Volunteer Lawyer Project, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Foundation, Pones, ArtsWave, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the United Way Foundation, among others, Whitney leads by example, embodying the charitable culture rooted at Katz Teller.
